How Female Teenager Overpowered Gunman, Foiled Armed Robbery Attack on Her Family

A 19-year-old girl, Taiwo Badmus, has been hailed for her extraordinary courage after reportedly helping to foil an armed robbery attack on her family’s home in Animashaun, Ota, Ogun State.

According to reports, the terrifying incident happened on May 25 in her family residence in Ota.

Thegazellenews.com learnt that a group of armed robbers had stormed the Badmus family house and held family members to ransom.

Taiwo, her siblings, and other members of the household were reportedly ordered to lie face down as the intruders demanded their mobile phones, ATM cards, and PIN numbers.

It was at that point that Taiwo took matters into her hands and what followed was a remarkable act of bravery.

While lying face down under the robbers’ orders, Taiwo reportedly noticed that the gang leader — who was armed with a gun — had shifted his full attention to her father which affected his concentration on the other members of the family.

In that split second, she made a bold decision that could easily have cost her life.

She suddenly got up, grabbed an abandoned radio, and struck the gang leader on the head.

The impact reportedly caused the gunman, identified as Adesola Olawale, to collapse on the spot. But as he fell, a bullet was discharged from the weapon and reportedly grazed Taiwo’s hand, leaving her with a minor injury.

Her fearless action instantly changed the course of the attack.

Inspired by Taiwo’s courage, her father and siblings reportedly sprang into action and joined in restraining the wounded robber. At the sound of the gunshot, the remaining three gang members allegedly panicked, believing the family had somehow armed themselves, and immediately fled the scene.

The arrested suspect, Adesola Olawale, was subsequently taken into custody, while Taiwo was moved to a safe location under full protection, according to the report.

The dramatic incident has drawn admiration from many Nigerians, with Taiwo’s name now being associated with rare courage, quick thinking, and an instinct to protect her family in the face of grave danger.

At just 19, she reportedly stood up to an armed gang leader while staring down the barrel of a gun — an act that not only disrupted the robbery but may have saved her father and the rest of her family from a far worse outcome.

In a country where stories of violent home invasions often end in tragedy, Taiwo Badmus’ bravery has become a powerful reminder that courage can emerge from the most unexpected moments — even from a teenager under attack.

“Taiwo Badmus is the kind of courage that turns fear into resistance and an ordinary night into a story of survival.”
