A prospective corps member has gone viral on social media after expressing strong frustration over his deployment for the mandatory national service scheme.
In a post that has sparked widespread reactions online, the individual questioned the decision of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to post him to the northern part of the country, specifically Kano State, despite having no prior connection to the area.
According to the viral statement, the prospective corps member, who claims to reside in Owerri, expressed concern about insecurity and distance from home, insisting he would prefer to serve in a closer state.
“NYSC called me but I won’t be going, tell me why you’re posting me to Kano state out of all the 36 states, I’m staying in Owerri you’re taking me to Kano with the whole insecurity not even a close by state, Did my father say he has 50M naira for ransom…,” the post read in part.
The statement has since generated mixed reactions online, with some users sympathising with his fears about safety and relocation, while others argued that national service is designed to promote unity and expose graduates to different parts of the country.
