Insecurity: Radda Hails Tinubu’s Approval For Recruitment Of 1,000 Forest Guards

Governor Dikko Radda has applauded the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to tackling insecurity in the state, following President Bola Tinubu’s approval for the recruitment and training of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen security operations across Katsina.

Radda described the development as a major boost to ongoing efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace, protecting communities, and securing forests that have become hideouts for bandits and other criminal elements.

The governor made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of religious leaders drawn from across Katsina State at the Government House in Katsina.

According to him, the Federal Government’s intervention demonstrates President Tinubu’s determination to support states grappling with security challenges and to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

Radda expressed gratitude to Tinubu for approving the recruitment initiative, noting that the forest guards would play a crucial role in protecting forests and vulnerable areas across the state.

“The day before yesterday, when we visited the President, he directed us to recruit 1,000 personnel who will serve as forest guards to protect our forests and other places of our people,” the governor said.

He disclosed that the Federal Government would bear the responsibility for training the recruits, providing them with arms, and paying their entitlements, a move he said would significantly enhance the effectiveness of the security architecture being put in place.

The governor emphasised that the initiative would complement the efforts of conventional security agencies and local security structures in combating banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that have affected several communities in the state.

Radda reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional institutions, and religious leaders to achieve sustainable peace and stability across Katsina.

The approval of the 1,000 forest guards comes amid intensified efforts by both the state and federal governments to reclaim forests from criminal gangs and improve security in the North-West region.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the additional security personnel will help curb criminal activities and strengthen confidence among communities affected by insecurity.
