In a statement shared on his X handle on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and former Labour Party spokesperson, Kenneth Okonkwo, has intensified his public dispute with supporters of the NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, following recent criticism of the presidential candidate.
Okonkwo’s latest remarks came in response to what he described as comments from Obi’s supporters on his social media platform after a series of statements he made concerning the NDC candidate and developments within the opposition political landscape.
In a post addressing one of the individuals, the ADC chieftain defended his criticism of Obi and questioned reports suggesting that legal action had been initiated against some of the former governor’s critics. “Some Obi’s ekukes came to spy on my platform and this is my response to one of them,” Okonkwo wrote.
He went on to compare criticism directed at other leading political figures with reactions from Obi’s supporters. “You are as foolish as your Peter Obi, who can’t stand the truth. Tinubu is criticised, Atiku is criticised by Obi’s mad dogs. None of them sued people because they recognise that we are in a democracy and people are free to express themselves,” he stated.
Okonkwo argued that public office holders and political leaders must be prepared to tolerate criticism and opposing viewpoints, maintaining that freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of democratic governance.
“If he has such a thin skin against criticism as an ordinary citizen, he will certainly kill all Nigerians with the guns of the state if he ever nears any position of office, God forbid, because Nigerians love to express themselves,” he wrote.
According to the ADC chieftain, Nigeria requires leaders who can accommodate political dissent and differing opinions without resorting to legal action against critics. “We need a tolerant democratic President, not an Obi who does not know his left from his right. Go and get a job and a life,” he added.
Okonkwo also indicated that he intends to continue responding directly to supporters of Obi who engage with him on social media platforms. “Henceforth, I will reply any Obi street urchin who comes to my platform to talk nonsense,” he wrote.
