In a post by his contractor, the before-and-after images show a simple single-storey house with a blue iron-sheet roof and cream-painted walls being converted into a modern multi-level residence with a complex roof design and a significantly larger footprint.
The renovation quickly attracted attention online, with many Kenyans praising the teacher’s ambition and determination. However, others questioned whether the original foundation was strong enough to support the additional weight of a second floor.
The concerns prompted discussions about the safety of converting existing bungalows into larger homes without demolishing them and starting afresh.
According to the contractor behind the project, the transformation was carried out under professional supervision. He explained that a structural engineer assessed the original building and approved the renovation before construction began.

The contractor noted that engineers closely monitored the works to ensure the foundation, columns and other structural elements could safely support the expanded house.
Structural assessments are considered a critical step when homeowners plan to add an extra storey to an existing building. Experts say engineers must evaluate foundations, walls and load-bearing components before approving such projects.
The new home now towers above the original bungalow, featuring multiple roof sections, larger living spaces and a modern appearance that has impressed many observers.
While some social media users remained sceptical about the structure’s long-term durability, others argued that professionally supervised renovations can safely transform ordinary bungalows into spacious family homes.
The teacher’s ambitious project has since become a talking point online, with many Kenyans describing it as proof that older houses can be given a new lease of life through proper planning, engineering expertise and substantial investment.
