Jose Mourinho will return as Real Madrid manager if Florentino Perez wins the club’s presidential election on Sunday.
Perez is campaigning for another term in charge at Real but will face competition from renewable energy entrepreneur Enrique Riquelme in the first contested election for 20 years.
The current president confirmed he would bring Mourinho back to the Bernabeu Stadium for a second stint in charge if successful in the elections.
Perez’s announcement landed while opponent Enrique Riquelme was appearing on Spanish television programme El Hormiguero, where he said he would not appoint Mourinho if elected.
He also claimed he would make Manchester City midfielder and Spain captain Rodri his first signing.
Mourinho managed Real from 2010 to 2013 and guided Los Blancos to a record LaLiga points tally in 2012.
