Loss of Political Ally Raises Questions Over Foluke Daramola- Salako’s House of Reps Bid

The death of Alhaja Modinat Ibrahim, the Women Leader of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government and a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked questions about the possible impact of her absence on the political structure and aspirations of House of Representatives hopeful, Foluke Daramola-Salako.

Daramola-Salako, who is aspiring to represent Oshodi Constituency I in the House of Representatives, expressed deep sadness over the passing of the influential grassroots politician, describing her as a friend, political associate and one of the most impactful women in the politics of the local government.

The Octopus News reports that a statement released by Daramola-Salako  following the news of Ibrahim’s death, revealed that she had recently visited the APC chieftain at her residence after learning about her health challenges and had offered support during her illness.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received the sad news of the passing of my friend, political associate and the woman leader of our dear local government, Alhaja Modinat Ibrahim, who left us yesterday after a protracted illness,” she stated.

The actress-turned-politician noted that Ibrahim played a significant role in the political landscape of Oshodi/Isolo and remained an influential force within the APC until her death.

According to Daramola-Salako, their political relationship dated back to 2021 when they worked together during the emergence of the current chairman of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede Almaroof.

“Alhaja Modinat and I had known each other politically since 2021, when we worked together for the emergence of the current chairman of our local government, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede Almaroof. From that period until her passing, we remained in touch and maintained a cordial political relationship,” she said.

Political observers say Ibrahim’s death leaves a vacuum within the women mobilization structure of the party in Oshodi/Isolo, given her influence among female party members and grassroots stakeholders.

While Daramola-Salako did not directly address any political implications arising from the loss, her tribute highlighted the extent of Ibrahim’s involvement within her political circle and the role she played in local party affairs.

Describing the late APC leader as politically versatile, dogged and influential, Daramola-Salako said her contributions to politics in Oshodi/Isolo would not be forgotten by members of her political group.

“She was a politically versatile, dogged, and influential woman, whose impact on the politics of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government and beyond, as the woman leader, will not be forgotten in my consciousness and that of my political group,” she said.

The aspiring lawmaker also extended condolences to the government and people of Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, women across the council area and members of the APC in Lagos State.

She prayed for the repose of Ibrahim’s soul and asked God to comfort her family, associates and political allies.

The passing of the APC woman leader comes at a time when political activities are gradually gathering momentum ahead of future electoral contests, making her absence a notable development within the local political landscape.

Whether her death will have any significant effect on existing political alignments and ambitions within Oshodi/Isolo remains to be seen. However, tributes pouring in from party members and associates suggest that Alhaja Modinat Ibrahim was regarded as an important figure whose influence extended beyond routine party administration into grassroots mobilization and political networking.

For Foluke Daramola-Salako, the loss represents not only the passing of a friend but also the departure of a trusted political associate with whom she shared years of collaboration within the APC structure in Oshodi/Isolo.
