Makueni: A grisly road accident on the busy Mombasa–Nairobi Highway on Saturday, June 20, claimed the lives of Ukambani businessman Stephen Ngei Musyoka and his beloved wife Giannaphina Mumbua Ngei.

Mumbua and Musyoka, the owners of Makindu Motors and well-known entrepreneurs in Kamba land, died in a devastating road accident when the vehicle they were driving rammed into a long-distance trailer.
A viral social media video captured the grim aftermath of the crash, showing Musyoka’s vehicle and a heavy truck bearing South Sudan (SSD) licence plates. Crushed cabins, scattered debris, and mechanical wreckage were strewn across the road, indicating a high-impact collision.

According to a police report, a 21-year-old driver, Mohamed Maulid Mohamud was driving the trailer towards Mombasa when it collided head on collision with a Toyota pick-up at the Crashier area. Musyoka was the one driving the Toyota pick-up, which had another male passenger who sustained injuries.

The 53-year-old businessman and his wife died on the spot while while Maulid escaped unhurt.
Beyond Makindu Motors, Musyoka had built a wide-ranging business footprint across the region. Friends and associates recalled his investments, which provided employment opportunities for local youth.
Former Machakos senator, Johnson Muthama, led a section of Ukambani leaders in mourning the couple, eulogising Musyoka as a hardworking, humble, and dedicated individual whose contributions to the automobile industry and impact on many lives will not be forgotten.
“Their sudden passing is a great loss to their family, friends, and the wider community. My thoughts and prayers are with their children, loved ones, and all those mourning this painful loss. May God grant them strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time, and may the souls of the departed rest in eternal peace.” he mourned.
