Two years ago, after the birth of her daughter, she planted the baby’s placenta beneath a rose bush in her garden.
Today, the plant is flourishing with vibrant blooms, creating a living symbol of growth, life and the bond between mother and child.
Sharing photos of the thriving rose bush on social media, Allyse reflected on the sentimental decision that has captured the attention of thousands.
“Look at her now,” she wrote alongside images of the healthy plant. “I love that one day my daughter will be old enough to know this was planted for her.”

According to Allyse, she buried the frozen placenta in a hole about 15 inches deep before covering it with a thick layer of compost.
She then planted a bare-root rose bush above it, using a mixture of organic garden soil, worm castings and perlite to support healthy growth.
After watering the plant thoroughly, she added a mycorrhizae solution around the base to help strengthen the roots.
The mother admitted she was initially unsure whether the rose bush would survive because it was planted during the middle of summer, a period often considered challenging for establishing new plants.
However, the results have exceeded her expectations.
The rose bush has grown vigorously over the past two years, producing abundant blooms and becoming a cherished feature in the family’s garden.
Allyse also shared practical advice for other mothers curious about the process. She recommended burying the placenta deeply enough to prevent animals from digging it up and ensuring there is a layer of compost between the placenta and the plant’s roots.
Most importantly, she advised choosing a plant that holds personal meaning and is likely to be enjoyed for many years.

The practice of burying a placenta beneath a tree, flower or shrub is observed in various cultures around the world, often symbolising the connection between a child and nature. Many parents view it as a meaningful way to commemorate a birth while creating a lasting living memorial.
Responding to questions from gardening enthusiasts, Allyse explained that placentas naturally break down into organic matter rich in nutrients.
“The garden girlies will get it,” she joked. “Placenta breaks down as rich organic matter, and roses love nutrient-dense soil.”
She added that the combination of the placenta, compost, worm castings and beneficial fungi gave the plant a strong start.
Now, as both her daughter and the rose bush continue to grow, Allyse says the flourishing blooms serve as a beautiful reminder of the day her child entered the world.
“What started as a simple planting project has become one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever planted,” she said.
