“It is the only job I rely on to feed my children. I have faced many challenges. I have been robbed of my phone several times because criminals often target my motorbike. I have been a boda boda rider for 10 years. It is the only job that allows me the flexibility to rush home whenever my special-needs child urgently needs me,” she said.
How much does Cate spends on her daughter?
Cate added that she cannot leave her daughter unattended or with someone who does not understand how to care for her properly.
She noted that she regularly goes home to check on her teenage daughter, saying this flexibility is one of the advantages of her work.
“I can spend around KSh 15,000 on her care. Sometimes I need a professional to check on her, and I promise to pay them later. I am blessed to have friends who are nurses and doctors whom I can rely on,” she added.

She appreciated them for their kindness, noting that they not only use her services but also support her livelihood.
“There are people who have more problems than I do. If I find someone struggling, I will not leave them there or make them feel worse. There have been times when I felt so low. I once walked onto a busy road hoping to be hit by a vehicle, but the driver stopped instead. When you have a child with special needs, many people view you as a beggar. She has been in this condition for five years now. Her body became rigid after undergoing an operation. The doctors tried to improve her situation, but unfortunately, her condition worsened,” Cate shared.
During a home visit with Shiksha, Cate revealed how she communicates with her daughter, who is unable to speak.
After sharing her story and speaking about her daughter’s condition, Cate received KSh 92,000 on her phone. Overcome with emotion, she could not believe the blessing that had come her way and how it could transform her life.
