Plateau Governor Mutfwang Appoints Retired Brig.-Gen. Nash Yakubu as Operation Rainbow Coordinator

Jos, Plateau State — Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has approved a major restructuring of the state’s security architecture, appointing retired Brigadier-General Nash Yakubu as the new Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, the state’s homegrown security outfit.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Samuel Jatau, who said the restructuring is aimed at strengthening security coordination and improving the protection of lives and property across the state.

According to the statement, Brigadier-General Yakubu brings more than three decades of military experience to the role, having served in the Nigerian Army for 35 years before his retirement. During his military career, he participated in several counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East, operations related to the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), as well as United Nations peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Sudan.

As part of the restructuring, the former Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, retired Brigadier-General Gakji Shipi Goshwe, has been redeployed to serve as the Coordinator of the Safe School Programme. Goshwe previously served as the Governor’s Special Adviser on Security.

Governor Mutfwang also approved the appointment of retired Major-General Bala A. Isandu as Special Adviser on Security. Isandu is a former Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence and has held senior positions within the Defence Intelligence Agency.

The Plateau State Government said the appointments take immediate effect and are expected to enhance the state’s security framework by leveraging the expertise of experienced retired military officers.

The restructuring comes as Plateau State continues to confront recurring security challenges, including attacks and communal violence in several local government areas. The government expressed confidence that the new leadership will strengthen security operations and improve coordination among security agencies in addressing threats across the state.

Operation Rainbow is Plateau State’s security outfit established to complement conventional security agencies in maintaining peace, preventing crime, and responding to security threats within the state.
