According to the woman, she booked an online ride from Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) and was headed to Utalii along Thika Road. She said the journey was smooth at first, and she expected to be dropped at her designated destination without any issues.

“The driver and I were having small talk, and all was well,” she narrated.

However, Phylis claims the driver took her to a different location and immediately demanded payment. The woman reportedly refused, insisting that she had not been taken to the destination she had entered in the app.

The disagreement quickly escalated, with the passenger alleging that the driver threatened to take her to a police station if she did not pay the fare. She further claimed that the driver began driving recklessly as the argument continued.

“I told him not to kill me in an accident because a speeding lorry was approaching,” she recalled.

The situation took a dramatic turn when officials from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) reportedly noticed the vehicle’s manner of driving and intervened. The woman said she seized the opportunity to explain what had happened.

“When the KeNHA officials arrived, I told them the Bolt driver was kidnapping me,” she alleged.

Following her claims, she was able to exit the vehicle safely. The incident eventually made its way to a police station, where both parties were expected to give their accounts of the dispute.

The woman’s story has sparked debate online, with some Kenyans calling for ride-hailing companies to strengthen passenger safety measures, while others urged passengers and drivers to resolve destination disputes through the apps’ support systems rather than confrontations on the road.
