NDC dismisses candidates’ list circulating on social media

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed a list of alleged candidates for upcoming elections in Imo, Abia, and Anambra states that is currently circulating on social media, insisting that the document did not originate from the party.

In a statement released on Friday by Ikenna Enekweizu, the party’s national secretary, the NDC described the publication as false, misleading, and not authorised by its national leadership.

The party urged members of the public and its supporters across the affected states to ignore the circulating lists, stressing that they do not represent its official nominations for any electoral contest.

According to the statement, the NDC has already submitted its authentic list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the proper legal and procedural channels as required by electoral laws.

Enekweizu alleged that the fake list was being spread by individuals he described as “mischief makers” seeking to create confusion and disrupt the party’s internal processes ahead of elections.

He added that the party has launched an investigation to trace those behind the circulation of the falsified document and to determine how the misinformation was leaked.

“These lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well,” the statement read in part. “However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party.”

The NDC further reaffirmed its commitment to internal unity and organisational discipline, saying it remains focused on presenting a credible political alternative to Nigerians.

The party also assured its members that only officially released communications from its national headquarters should be regarded as valid regarding candidate selection and electoral preparations.
