NECO Releases 2026 BECE Results, Schedules Date For Re-Sit Examination

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates having registered for the examination nationwide.

According to NECO, the candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026. The results were approved and released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination and the processes that led to the timely release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country, alongside members of NECO’s management team.

Meanwhile, the Award Committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, as the dates for the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO explained that the re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

The Council noted that the exercise provides affected candidates with an opportunity to remedy their deficiencies and obtain the required certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I) without repeating a full academic session.

The examination body reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards and ensuring that eligible candidates have the opportunity to progress in their academic pursuits.
