Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Fake General in Sabo Area of Kaduna

KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA – Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a man in Kaduna State for allegedly impersonating a retired Major General in a suspected case of military identity fraud.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday by personnel of the 312 Artillery Regiment at the Strike Force Base in the Sabo area of Kaduna following actionable intelligence received by security operatives.

Military sources said the operation was carried out after credible intelligence indicated that the suspect had been posing as a senior retired military officer. Troops were said to have tracked and arrested him at about 9:14 a.m. without resistance.

He is accused of impersonating retired Major General A.T. Ibrahim, prompting his immediate detention for preliminary investigation.

A security source confirmed that the suspect is currently in military custody undergoing interrogation.

The individual was arrested for allegedly impersonating Maj.-Gen. A.T. Ibrahim (rtd) and is currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation,” the source said.

Officials further stated that the suspect would be handed over to appropriate authorities after initial military procedures are concluded for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the suspect’s motive for the alleged impersonation or whether the false identity was used to facilitate fraud or other criminal activities.

Security agencies are also investigating whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider network involved in identity-related offences.

The operation was carried out by troops of the 312 Artillery Regiment, which remains engaged in further investigative efforts.
