Nigerian man loses ₦25 million property after returning from U.S

A Nigerian man has been left devastated after returning from the United States to discover that a house he had spent years and about ₦25 million building had allegedly been sold without his knowledge.

The story, shared on X by a lady claiming to be a relative, detailed how the property in Eneka changed ownership while the man was abroad, with a close family member reportedly involved in the transactions.

Years of Investment and Silent Deception

According to the account, the man travelled to the United States in 2018 after securing a job opportunity and left his unfinished building under the supervision of someone he trusted.

Just supervise the workers for me,” he reportedly said before leaving Nigeria.

Initially, progress reports appeared normal, with images, videos, and receipts allegedly sent to reassure him that construction was ongoing smoothly.

The updates continued for months, and whenever concerns arose, explanations were provided about rising costs, exchange rate changes, and labour disruptions.

Encouraged by what he believed was steady progress, he reportedly continued sending money over two years, totalling nearly ₦25 million.

Shock Discovery After Unexpected Return

The situation took a dramatic turn when the man returned to Nigeria unannounced in December, intending to inspect the property himself.

Upon arrival, he allegedly discovered another family already living in the house.

Further investigations reportedly revealed that the property had been used as collateral for a loan obtained through a cooperative society, which later led to its seizure and sale after default.

The account also claimed that funds meant for construction were diverted into another business venture in Abuja.

The alleged actions were traced back to his younger brother, who had been entrusted with overseeing the project.

Family Pressure and Legal Action

Following the discovery, family members allegedly urged him to avoid involving authorities, insisting that the matter should remain within the family.

Don’t involve the police. He’s still your brother. Family matters should stay inside the family. Don’t disgrace us,” the report stated.

However, the man reportedly refused to settle privately and proceeded to file a case, leading to his brother’s arrest and the sealing of the alleged business premises.

The decision sparked division within the family, with some members criticising him for pursuing legal action.

Betrayal, Fallout, and a New Start

According to the account, the incident caused lasting tension within the family, with gatherings becoming strained and relationships fractured.

Despite the emotional and financial loss, the man has reportedly begun rebuilding on a smaller piece of land, this time under stricter legal supervision.

He is also said to now insist on formal documentation in all dealings, often advising others: “Love your family. But document everything.”
