The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested two suspected deserters from the Togolese Army alongside several suspected cable vandals and other theft suspects during separate intelligence-led operations across Lagos State.
The suspects were paraded at the NSCDC Lagos Command headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja, as part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and protect critical national infrastructure.
Speaking on the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the arrests were made following credible intelligence received from members of the public, private security firms, and other security stakeholders.
According to him, the successful operations highlight the importance of community collaboration in strengthening security and tackling crime across the state.
Abolurin disclosed that the two suspected Togolese military deserters were apprehended after intelligence reports linked them to suspicious activities. He noted that the suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and due diligence before being handed over to the appropriate security agency for further action.
In a separate operation carried out on June 27 in the Okun Ajah area of Lagos, NSCDC operatives arrested two suspected cable vandals following a tip-off from Proton Security Limited.
The suspects were allegedly intercepted while transporting vandalised armoured cables in a shuttle bus. Two other suspects reportedly escaped during the operation and are currently being tracked by security operatives.
Recovered exhibits include the shuttle bus used in the operation and the vandalised armoured cables believed to have been stolen from critical infrastructure.
During preliminary interrogation, one of the suspects allegedly confessed that he and his accomplices were promised ₦150,000 to transport the cables. He also claimed that the individuals who hired them included men dressed in military camouflage alongside civilians. However, the NSCDC said investigations are ongoing and has not independently verified the suspect’s claims.
The command also confirmed the arrest of additional suspects linked to battery and inverter theft in separate operations across Lagos State.
Authorities said investigations into all the cases are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prosecute everyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
