NYSC Suspends Batch B Stream I Orientation In Niger Over Camp Renovation

The National Youth Service Corps has suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course for prospective corps members posted to Niger State, citing ongoing renovation at the state’s orientation camp.

The scheme disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting that the exercise could not proceed as scheduled due to infrastructural works at the camp facility.

According to the statement, affected prospective corps members would be duly informed of new arrangements.

It read in part, “This is to notify the general public and prospective corps members deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation course that the exercise is suspended for now due to ongoing renovation work at the orientation camp.

“PCMs affected should note that they will be contacted at short notice on where and when to report for their orientation course. Management regrets any inconvenience caused to affected corps members and their parents.”

The orientation course, which commenced nationwide on June 10, 2026, was initially scheduled to end on June 30.

Findings indicated that the suspension may not be unconnected with earlier damage to facilities at the Niger State orientation camp in Paiko, located in Paikoro Local Government Area.

A windstorm earlier in the year reportedly destroyed key structures, including hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen, and staff quarters, prompting the state government to order immediate rehabilitation.

The development adds to a growing list of disruptions to the NYSC orientation programme in recent months, with similar postponements recorded in states such as Enugu and Osun due to infrastructure challenges.

Despite the setback, the NYSC assured affected corps members that fresh details regarding the rescheduled exercise would be communicated in due course.
