The National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) and the Lagos State Government are preparing for the official launch of “Snacks For Thought – A Breakfast Club”, a new school feeding initiative under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP).
The move follows a courtesy visit by the National Programme Manager of RH-NHGSFP, Dr. Princess Aderemi F. Adebowale, to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at Lagos House, Ikeja, as both sides intensified discussions around child nutrition, education, and human capital development.
The initiative, also known as PBAT FEEDS, is being positioned as a Corporate Social Responsibility-driven intervention aimed at ensuring that schoolchildren do not begin the day hungry. According to officials involved in the engagement, the programme is expected to improve concentration levels, classroom participation, school attendance, and learning outcomes among pupils.
Unlike conventional feeding programmes, Snacks For Thought is structured as a Public-Private-Community Partnership model. The initiative seeks to mobilise support from government institutions, private sector organisations, development partners, philanthropists, and community stakeholders to adopt schools and support structured breakfast feeding systems across communities.
The programme is also expected to create wider economic impact through local supply chains, women empowerment, youth engagement, support for smallholder farmers, and increased circulation within community economies.
Officials from NSIPA who accompanied Dr. Adebowale during the visit included Ms. Aisha Alubankudi, National Programme Manager, Grants for Vulnerable Groups, NSIPA; Dr. Binta Ibrahim, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, NSIPA; and Barr. Kana, Director of Legal Services, NSIPA.
The official launch in Lagos is expected to attract key government stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of NSIPA, Assoc. Prof. Badamasi Lawal.
A major highlight of the launch will be the unveiling of LUMI, the Children’s Brand Ambassador for the programme. According to organisers, LUMI represents educational curiosity, national unity, imagination, and the broader vision of raising confident and globally inspired Nigerian children.
Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Adebowale said, “Snacks For Thought is more than feeding. It is about building stronger futures, protecting childhood, strengthening education, reducing vulnerability, and investing in the next generation of Nigerian leaders.”
