French football legend Zinedine Zidane is set to succeed Didier Deschamps as head coach of the France national team after reportedly signing a four-year contract that will keep him in charge until June 2030.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed the development in a post on Facebook on Tuesday, stating that the former Real Madrid manager would be officially unveiled by the French Football Federation (FFF) in the coming days.
According to Romano:”Zinedine Zidane has signed as the new France coach until June 2030.
“The story has been confirmed as Zizou will be unveiled as the new head coach in the next days — back to work with France.”
He concluded the announcement with his trademark phrase: “Here we go, confirmed.”
Zidane will officially begin work on September 1, 2026, succeeding his former France teammate Deschamps, who stepped down after ending a 14-year spell in charge following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 54-year-old will be joined by his long-time assistant, David Bettoni, as part of his coaching staff.
His reported contract covers three major international competitions, beginning with the 2027 UEFA Nations League, followed by UEFA Euro 2028 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The appointment marks Zidane’s return to management for the first time since leaving Real Madrid in 2021 after his second spell with the Spanish club.
During his time at the Santiago Bernabéu, Zidane established himself as one of football’s most successful managers, leading Real Madrid to three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles between 2016 and 2018.
He also guided the club to two La Liga titles, alongside several domestic and international trophies.
As a player, Zidane inspired France to victory at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and has long been regarded as the leading candidate to replace Deschamps, having repeatedly been linked with the national team job and publicly expressing his desire to coach Les Bleus.
As of the time of filing this report, the French Football Federation had yet to issue an official statement confirming Zidane’s appointment.
