Peter Obi sues Kenneth Okonkwo over alleged defamatory statements, seeks ₦8 billion damages

Peter Obi, has filed a defamation suit against Kenneth Okonkwo at the High Court of Anambra State, Onitsha Judicial Division.

In the suit, Obi alleges that statements made by Okonkwo during his June 8 appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, and later amplified on X, Facebook and other online platforms, were “false, malicious, baseless and defamatory.”

Obi is seeking ₦5 billion in general damages, ₦2 billion in aggravated damages, and ₦1 billion in exemplary damages, bringing the total claim to ₦8 billion.

He is also asking the court to order Kenneth Okonkwo to publish a full, unreserved and unequivocal retraction and apology, delete the alleged defamatory publications from all platforms under his control, and restrain him from making similar allegations in the future.
