The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports of an alleged kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School, Gbagalape, Abuja, describing the claim as false and unfounded.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command said it responded promptly to a distress call reporting an ongoing kidnapping at the school but found no evidence to support the allegation after extensive investigations.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Nyanya Division received the distress call at about 10:30 a.m. on June 4, 2026, prompting an immediate deployment of personnel and surveillance teams to the scene by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
Preliminary findings revealed that panic erupted after some pupils suddenly began shouting “kidnappers” and ran out of the school premises, causing fear among teachers, parents and members of the surrounding community.
The police said the school premises were immediately secured and subjected to a thorough search.
“Following extensive search and questioning of persons within and around the school premises, no kidnapping incident was established, no suspect was sighted, and no victim was identified,” the statement said.
The Command added that surrounding hills, boundary areas and adjoining locations were also searched, while nearby schools were visited as part of precautionary security measures.
The police therefore urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic and tension.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies through the appropriate security channels.
He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
