Police Deny Inviting Oyo Monarch Over Oriire School Abduction, Dismiss Reports as ‘False and Misleading’

The Oyo State Police Command has officially denied reports that a traditional ruler in Oriire Local Government Area was invited for questioning over the abduction of teachers and schoolchildren in the community.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade described the reports as false, unfounded, and misleading.

The statement clarified that High Chief Tajudeen Abioye, the Elesinele of Esinele, had not been invited by the police in connection with the investigation.

The Command views the publication as part of a deliberate campaign of misinformation orchestrated by criminal elements aimed at creating division and undermining security efforts.

Members of the public have been advised to disregard the report and refrain from sharing unverified information that could jeopardise ongoing security operations.

The abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers occurred on May 15, 2026, following attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

One teacher has since been confirmed killed by the abductors.
