The Katsina State Police Command on Friday said it foiled an attempted cattle rustling operation and recovered 20 stolen cows following a gun battle with suspected bandits in Jibia Local Government Area.

According to the Command, the security team strategically blocked the bandits’ escape routes, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Overpowered by the combined security forces, the suspects abandoned all the rustled cattle and fled into the bush with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, who disclosed this in a statement on Friday, said security operatives had intensified surveillance and launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Commending the swift response and bravery of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar Fage, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

The Command also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing efforts to combat crime, assuring that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
