Police Intercept Truck Laden With Camouflage, Suspected Drugs in Lagos

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos have intercepted a truck allegedly conveying military camouflage uniforms and cartons of suspected illicit substances to the South-East region.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing, stating that the vehicle was intercepted along the Lekki-Epe corridor while heading out of the state.

Fatai said the truck was found to be transporting a large quantity of military camouflage alongside about 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illegal drugs.

According to him, three suspects were arrested in connection with the development, while investigations have commenced to unravel the source of the items and their intended recipients.

He said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the truck was allegedly being used to move military camouflage uniforms to the eastern part of the country.

“Further investigations are ongoing to determine the ownership of the recovered items, establish the level of involvement of the suspects, and identify other individuals linked to the crime.”

The police boss noted that the illegal movement of military gear posed a serious security threat, stressing that the command would intensify efforts to curb the proliferation of such materials.

In a related development, the commissioner disclosed that the police rescued several foreign nationals from a potential mob attack in the Epe area of the state.

He said the individuals comprised 14 Chadians, nine Burkinabes, four Beninese, four Malians, two Togolese, two Cameroonians and one Ghanaian.

Fatai added that preliminary findings showed that 20 of the foreign nationals entered Nigeria illegally, while 18 possessed valid documentation under the ECOWAS protocol.

He said the matter had been referred to the appropriate authorities, including the Nigeria Immigration Service and relevant embassies, for further action.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining security across Lagos and warned against involvement in criminal activities, particularly those capable of undermining national safety.
