One concerned woman shared a video online in an effort to pressure the authorities to act swiftly and help identify the child and trace her family.

Standing by the riverside, she explained that the body had reportedly been trapped among reeds in the river for about two weeks and had begun to decompose.

She estimated the girl’s age to be between five and seven years and expressed sympathy for her parents, who may be desperately searching for her.

“Some of you thought I was looking for followers when I addressed the issue of this girl. I feel for her parents because I am also a mother. I will show you the body, but I have covered her face because it does not look good,” she said.

Nairobi Woman appeals for help to identify child

The woman walked into the river and stood near the child’s body, saying the girl was wearing a matching red long-sleeved top and trousers.

She added that the top featured a drawing on the chest, which she hoped would help with identification.

The concerned resident noted that the child might be among those previously reported missing.

“If we report the matter to the police, they want us to go and record statements. We are hustlers doing menial jobs and have little time to spare. We are therefore appealing to the online community to help so that the girl’s parents can be traced,” she said.

The woman further noted that the girl’s skin had begun peeling due to prolonged exposure to water.

Many residents speculated that the body may have been carried downstream by the river from areas such as Kayole or Dandora.
