Rivers State Police Arrest Suspect After Discovering Gun Concealed in loaf of Bread

Port Harcourt, Rivers State — Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have recovered a Browning pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread during a stop-and-search operation in Port Harcourt, leading to the arrest of a suspect.

The discovery was made along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction when officers conducting routine security checks intercepted a vehicle and carried out a thorough search.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Blessing Agabe, the firearm was carefully hidden inside a loaf of bread in what authorities described as an attempt to evade detection by security personnel.

The suspect, identified as Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, was immediately arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

Police investigations revealed that the recovered weapon was a Browning pistol with no visible serial number, a development that has raised concerns among security officials regarding the firearm’s origin and possible intended use.

During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the pistol and informed investigators that he purchased the weapon in Okrika for ₦800,000. Authorities are currently working to verify the claim and identify any individuals connected to the alleged transaction.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, said the recovery highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods being adopted by criminal elements to transport and conceal illegal weapons.

He noted that hiding a firearm inside a loaf of bread demonstrates the extent to which suspects are willing to go in an effort to beat security checks and evade law enforcement agencies.
