Speaking after the meeting with Mongolian Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh, Jaishankar added that the two sides reviewed cooperation across several sectors, including capacity building, technology, economic and trade cooperation, supply chain cooperation, education, culture, defence, security and energy.
The bilateral talks were held as part of Jaishankar’s two-day official visit to the country.
Jaishankar said the oil refinery being built in Mongolia remains the most important project under the two countries’ development partnership. The two sides also discussed other Indian-supported initiatives, including an ICT Centre, a school and several Quick Impact Projects.
Jaishankar noted that India and Mongolia marked 70 years of diplomatic relations in 2025. He recalled Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh’s visit to India in October last year, saying the trip helped strengthen bilateral ties and resulted in several important agreements.
“That visit was highly successful with several outcomes, and one of the purposes of my visit was to sit with my counterpart and review the progress of what was agreed to between our Prime Minister and your President last year,” he added.
He also said India values Mongolia’s participation in initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the International Big Cat Alliance.
The ministers also exchanged ideas on new opportunities and future projects aimed at taking the India-Mongolia Strategic Partnership to the next level. Jaishankar said English-language training was one area discussed and indicated that more joint initiatives could emerge in the coming months.
The two discussed the shared Buddhist heritage links and people-to-people ties.
Jaishankar, who arrived in Mongolia earlier in the day, said he looks forward to meeting the country’s president and other senior leaders during his visit.
He is also expected to visit key India-supported projects, including the oil refinery and other development sites, as well as cultural cooperation centres linked to the Gandan Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most important Buddhist monasteries.
