South-East NDC Crisis Deepens as Member Levels Corruption, Impunity Claims

Fresh allegations have emerged regarding an internal crisis within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with claims that disputes affecting the party extend across the five South-East states of Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi.

In a detailed social media thread, an NDC member alleged that the party is grappling with issues ranging from corruption, injustice, impunity, bribery, and the alleged legalization of irregularities, accusing the national leadership of failing to address growing concerns within the region.

Focusing on Enugu State, the author of the thread claimed that the crisis was orchestrated by top party officials and centered on the treatment of Dr. Johnpaul Anih, a young party member who reportedly joined the NDC before it gained national prominence.

According to the allegations, Dr. Anih was unfairly blamed for the crisis in Enugu State and subjected to what was described as character assassination through statements published on the party’s verified social media platforms. The author further accused the party leadership of failing to provide evidence to support the allegations made against him.

The thread challenged the NDC leadership to publicly substantiate its claims against Dr. Anih, insisting that there are multiple sides to the dispute and urging Nigerians to examine the facts before drawing conclusions.

Providing background to the controversy, the author stated that in April 2026, Dr. Anih and other NDC members from Enugu State met with the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, in Abuja to discuss strategies for strengthening the party’s structure in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation also reportedly met with the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, who encouraged them to pursue legitimate efforts aimed at expanding the party’s presence in Enugu State, beginning with the conduct of ward, local government, and state congresses.
