Super Eagles arrive Lisbon camp ahead of Portugal friendly

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Lisbon, Portugal ahead of their international friendly against Portugal scheduled for June 10.

The Nigerian team moved camp from Poland as preparations continue for the high-profile encounter against the Seleção das Quinas.

A total of 19 players travelled directly from Warsaw to Lisbon following Nigeria’s friendly match against Poland on Wednesday.

Striker Rafiu Durosinmi did not make the trip after he was excused from the travelling party to attend to private personal matters.

The squad has, however, received a boost with the arrival of midfielder Alex Iwobi and KRC Genk defender Christian Akpan.

Akpan, a 21-year-old left-back with the Belgian club, is among the foreign-based players being integrated into the national team during the international window.

AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze is expected to arrive in Portugal on Friday to complete the expected roster.

The June 10 fixture will serve as Portugal’s final preparation match before the country departs for North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For Nigeria, the friendly offers another opportunity to test the squad against elite opposition ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September.

Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to use the match to further assess his team as preparations continue for upcoming competitive fixtures.
