Abuja, Nigeria — Security operatives have arrested a suspected drug trafficker and recovered 235 kilograms of suspected cannabis sativa during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lokoja–Abuja Highway.
The arrest was reportedly carried out by troops of the Quick Reaction Group (QRG) stationed in Abaji as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and drug trafficking across the country.
According to security sources, the operation took place on June 22, 2026, when troops intercepted a white Toyota Avalon XLS with Kaduna State registration number BNG-326BN. The vehicle was said to be travelling from Okitipupa in Ondo State to Abuja when it was flagged down for inspection.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 273 compressed parcels of suspected cannabis concealed within the car. The illicit substance was estimated to weigh approximately 235 kilograms.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Ayodeji John, was immediately arrested and taken into custody for questioning. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect was transporting the narcotics to an undisclosed destination within the Federal Capital Territory.
Following the arrest, the suspect and the recovered exhibits were handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with Nigeria’s drug control laws.
