At the time, the only sounds that could be heard were the cries and sobs of mourners saying their final goodbyes to the deceased.
One person even climbed into the grave to assist. However, fate appeared to have other plans. As soon as he climbed out, the coffin shifted from an upside-down position to an upright one, narrowly missing his leg.
Mourners left in shock as casket bursts open
Moments later, the upper section of the casket burst open, followed by the entire lid, exposing the body of the deceased.
As this happened, the sorrowful cries quickly turned into screams of shock and horror.
The screams grew louder and more distressing as the pallbearers stood frozen in disbelief, unsure of what to do next.
For several moments, they remained by the graveside trying to process what had happened while mourners continued wailing in distress.
The viral video sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users sharing their views on the incident.

Some noted that in the past, communities would often associate such an occurrence with cultural beliefs, and rituals would sometimes be performed to appease the spirit of the deceased.
Today, however, such incidents are generally viewed as unfortunate accidents that are resolved before the burial service proceeds.
“In this digital era, an occurrence like this would easily be mistaken for a normal accident. But in the days when we cleared compounds of the bereaved, split firewood and fetched water for burial activities, long before catering teams discovered our villages, a similar occurrence would mean a lot of things. Rituals would be conducted to appease the spirits,” shared JB Omukangala.
