Kelly also thanked Chuka Hospital for its prompt response in treating the baby and ensuring she was in good health.
She further appealed to community members to help trace the child’s mother, noting that she may have abandoned the baby due to postpartum depression.
The case has already been reported at Cheera Police Station, where officers urged members of the public to report any woman who was recently pregnant but cannot account for the whereabouts of her baby.
“If you know a lady who has been expecting a baby around Cheera or Kathathani and does not have the baby and cannot explain where the child is, please let us know or report the matter to Cheera Police Station. Postpartum depression is real, and we are here to help. I am sure the mother is also not okay,” she said.
Images shared online captured the emotional moments when the infant was rescued and later transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

Netizens react after newborn baby is abandoned in Chuka
Kiki Melanin:
“Some people are judging the mum, but please, sometimes things can become so overwhelming that a person loses control. Postpartum depression is real. At least she did not abort the child. From the photos above, she had wrapped the baby well with lesos. When the mother is found, we can listen to her story. Perhaps she is facing challenges that became too much for her to handle. At least she did not throw the baby into a pit latrine.”
Ireen Santaz:
“Wooi, why now? Innocent baby. A grown woman spends her time enjoying herself, then comes and makes a newborn baby suffer. She is perfectly okay and chose to do this. She should be taught a serious lesson.”
Sharoo Shartzen:
“Si Kelly HSC, I feel so sorry for the baby, but I cannot judge the mother. I only want to ask, where is the father of the child? Depression is real. Sometimes I also get so depressed, but because I fear God and try to do what pleases Him, I choose to hold on and keep fighting for my child. I am sure I will make it.”
