“This one can sell his twin brother to bandits” – Mixed reactions as Peter Okoye blames reunion with Psquare for his slow media growth

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye has blamed Psquare reunion for his slow social media growth.

In a recent interview, he said his account previously experienced massive daily follower growth, at times reaching as many as 100,000 new followers per day. He said that during that period, he was among the top Nigerian entertainers in terms of online influence and engagement metrics.

But now, his social media growth has dropped drastically. The singer speculated that his reunion with his brother at that time was the reason, though he wasn’t sure.

He also referenced the competitive nature of social media influence among celebrities, mentioning Davido and Don Jazzy as part of the space he was tracking at the time.

In April, Peter announced that he was officially changing his birthday date from November 18th to November 30th. The singer said it is a personal decision and he appreciates the public for understanding.

Responding to critics on Twitter, he questioned why they were so pained and outraged that he cancelled Christmas. Peter further questioned why people were crying more than the bereaved and noted how it is causing more pain to many than Nigeria’s real problems. He made it known that their insults don’t move him.

Not done, series of tweets, Peter pointed out the irony that no one mentioned they were blood when his brothers were stealing from him and creating a false narrative about him. He warned against dragging women into their beef, noting that the women weren’t in their lives 20 years ago. He said even if his parents were alive, he would still step back from his siblings.

When a tweep admonished him to remove Psquare from his name following his decision, Peter said he had discovered the name, earned it, and would own it.

Earlier in the year, Peter shut down any possibility of the famous group ever coming back, making it clear that Psquare was done and dusted. He admonished critics to respect people’s decisions, noting that nothing lasts forever and that change is constant.

Recall that in 2023, Psquare had fallen out again because of the joint funds being diverted by their elder brother, Jude Okoye.
