A 36-year-old man, Kennedy Mburuche, was on Monday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a staff member of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company.
Mburuche was arraigned before Magistrate O. M. Ogun on a two-count charge bordering on assault and breach of peace.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences on April 22 at James Oyelekan Street, Ilogbo, Ajangbadi, Lagos.
Adesulu alleged that Mburuche assaulted one Mudashiru Yusuf, a staff member of EKEDC, while he was performing his lawful duty.
She further alleged that the defendant caused a breach of peace by threatening the complainant’s life with broken bottles and stones, thereby creating fear.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 168 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The court granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Magistrate Ogun adjourned the case until June 15 for mention.
