Three undocumented immigrants were arrested during a multidisciplinary intelligence-driven operation targeting drug trafficking in Odendaalsrus, Free State, on 25 June 2026.
The operation, conducted at about 12:00, resulted in the seizure of Crystal Meth, Mandrax and Nyaope with an estimated street value of R130,000, as well as a black Ford Focus allegedly used for drug deliveries.
The operation was carried out by the Free State Provincial Organised Crime Investigation, Welkom Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Crime Intelligence Surveillance Unit, Selosesha Tactical Response Team (TRT), and the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit. Police said the arrests formed part of a long-term, intelligence-driven investigation aimed at disrupting drug trafficking in communities across the Matjhabeng District.
The suspects, Azusor Ikennia John Kennedy (37), Orji Evalictus Okechukwu (36), and Henrietta Sibanda (31), face 13 cases relating to the dealing and possession of drugs. Police said they also have approximately 10 other pending court cases. Additional charges for contravening the Immigration Act are expected to be added against the three accused.
The accused have already appeared in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court on charges under the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act. The matter was postponed to 7 July 2026 for bail information, and the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue.
