Troops Nab Suspected Terror Kingpin In Zamfara Market Raid

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected terrorist kingpin, Kachalla Halilu, during a targeted, intelligence-driven operation at a busy market in Zamfara State, as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the North-West.

The suspect was apprehended at the Shinkafi Weekly Market by operatives of the 8 Division Garrison following credible intelligence that tracked his movement to the location.

Military sources said the troops swiftly mobilised and executed the operation without resistance, successfully taking Halilu into custody.

Items recovered from the suspect at the point of arrest include a motorcycle, a mobile phone, a cap, and livestock medication, raising suspicions about his operational mobility and logistics support within the region.

Security sources disclosed that the suspect has since been handed over to military intelligence authorities for further interrogation and profiling.

“The troops acted promptly on actionable intelligence and effected the arrest seamlessly,” a source familiar with the operation said.

The arrest is part of ongoing coordinated offensives by the Nigerian military aimed at disrupting terrorist cells, bandit enclaves, and criminal syndicates operating across Zamfara and neighbouring states.

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the full extent of Halilu’s involvement in terrorist activities, as well as to uncover possible collaborators and networks linked to him.

Zamfara State remains one of the epicentres of banditry and violent attacks in Nigeria’s North-West, with communities frequently targeted by armed groups involved in kidnapping, cattle rustling, and mass killings.

In recent months, security forces have ramped up intelligence-led operations, resulting in a series of arrests and neutralisation of high-profile suspects as part of broader efforts to restore peace in the troubled region.
