Troops Rescue Slain General’s Wife From Bandits’ Den In Katsina

Troops of the Nigerian military have rescued Amina Rabe, wife of the late Major General Abubakar Rabe, from captivity following sustained offensives against bandits in Katsina State.

The rescue, which took place on Monday, followed coordinated assaults on criminal enclaves in the Matazu forest and adjoining communities, where the victim was believed to have been held since her abduction.

Security sources familiar with the operation told newsmen  that the troops launched a series of joint attacks on the bandits’ hideouts from Sunday night into the early hours of Monday, leading to the destruction of several camps.

The operation involved a combined team of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the sources, the intensified offensive mounted significant pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to abandon their camps and enabling the successful rescue of Mrs Rabe.

Her husband, the late Major General Rabe, was abducted alongside her in a recent attack that drew widespread outrage and renewed concerns over insecurity in the North-West. He was reportedly killed by his captors during the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the rescue.

Efforts to reach military spokespersons for confirmation were unsuccessful, but multiple security insiders confirmed that the victim is currently in safe custody.

The incident adds to a growing list of abductions in the region, where armed groups have continued to target high-profile individuals and rural communities despite ongoing military operations.
