According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Amarachi Chinyere, a resident of Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, has narrated the circumstances surrounding an alleged assault involving a 37-year-old man, Agwu Ukpo, during a disagreement reportedly linked to a pot of soup.
She gave her account describing how the situation unfolded, leading to a confrontation that later attracted public attention and police involvement in the area.
She made the narration in a video shared on Facebook by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu on Monday.
The development came after the Abia State Police Command arrested Agwu Ukpo over his alleged role in the incident, which had already generated concern within the local community following the dispute.
According to Amarachi, the disagreement that escalated into the alleged assault did not begin as a domestic issue alone but was connected to earlier tension between her and the suspect.
She stated that the conflict started after she rejected repeated sexual advances made towards her, which she claimed set the stage for hostility between both parties.
She further explained that the incident in question occurred in the course of a disagreement involving a pot of soup, which became part of the confrontation that later escalated.
The situation, as she described, involved a mix of personal tension and an argument that intensified beyond a simple domestic exchange.
Amarachi alleged that the man had earlier approached her with an offer of money in exchange for sexual relations, which she refused on the grounds that she was married.
She maintained that despite her rejection, the advances reportedly continued, increasing the strain between them prior to the incident that led to the alleged assault.
She also stated that the suspect attempted to persuade her further by offering a monetary incentive, which she again declined.
According to her account, the repeated refusal contributed to a buildup of tension that eventually culminated in the confrontation linked to the pot of soup dispute.
“One day, that boy, Ukpo, asked me if he wanted to have sex with me, and I said no. Then he said he was going to give me N50,000. I told him no, that I am already married. He said he would treat me well, but I still told him no,” she said.
