Nairobi, Kenya: Emotions ran high during the burial service of the late Neema Wairimu, who was among the 16 girls who died in the Utumishi Girls Academy fire.
The fire gutted down the dormitory, and that is where most girls perished; some of the girls sadly died while trying to jump from the windows. A significant number of girls also got hurt in the melee and were treated in the nearby hospitals, while others were transferred to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Her family told NGBREAKINGNEWS about the journey of identifying their daughter and learning for sure that she was dead, and they also maintained that it was not easy.
Wairimu was a beloved Form Four student at Utumishi Girls Academy, and her family told NGBREAKINGNEWS that she was also a devoted believer and academic performer.
How did Wairimu’s family eulogise her?
In a service packed with mourners, Wairimu’s father talked lovingly of his second-born in a family of three, and he said:

“We thank you for the beautiful memories; the love and joy you brought into our family will remain with us forever,” he said.
Her sisters, who could hardly contain their emotions, said that it was hard to understand why such a calm, innocent soul had to leave so soon.
“We remember the moments we went to the salon and to the market and even the small moments at home,” said sister Abigael Njeri.
“I remember the first time I met you in Form One; you were young, cheerful, and always carried a smile. Through the subjects, we shared and the moments we spent together, it blossomed into a bond, and I felt like family,”said her schoolmate.
