Social media activist and commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has called on Nigerian youths to actively participate in the electoral process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting in future elections.
In a video message shared online, VDM argued that removing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu through the ballot box would strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and improve governance.
According to him, voting out a sitting president perceived to have underperformed would send a strong message to political leaders that power belongs to the people and that elected officials can be held accountable through elections.
“If we can vote President Tinubu out of power, Nigeria will improve by at least 70%. It would send a message that whoever we elect can be removed if they fail to perform,” he said.
The activist also urged Nigerians, particularly young people, to begin mobilizing others to register and obtain their PVCs ahead of future elections, stressing that many citizens who express political opinions online are not registered voters.
VDM further noted that the practice of politicians offering cash or food items to voters during elections underscores the importance of the vote, urging citizens not to underestimate their electoral power.
“Everybody should start preaching to everyone to get their voters card. The time is now. Eighty percent of people who talk on social media don’t even have PVCs. If voting is not important, politicians will not give you ₦5,000 or a bag of rice to vote them,” he stated.
