Maria Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas reportedly fell 40 metres (131 feet) from a bridge in Brazil on Saturday, June 13, resulting in her tragic death.

The clip shows Maria wearing a helmet and a safety harness around her waist. Three staff members lifted her into position for the jump.

How a bungee jump ended in death

One held her arms outstretched, another held her legs together, while a third supported her by the knees.

The two staff members at the front then moved a short distance and pushed her forward to begin the jump. However, reports indicate they allegedly failed to attach the safety cord to her harness as required.

As a result, she plunged from the Ponte do Esqueleto, commonly known as Skeleton Bridge.

After the fatal fall, the witness filming the incident pointed to the rope that had been left behind and shouted, “Guys, the rope!”

A police helicopter was dispatched to the scene in an attempt to rescue Maria, but she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The 21-year-old, who was reportedly a graduate in Physical Education and Sports Management, had allegedly purchased a guided tour that included a rope jump from the top of the disused Skeleton Bridge.

Following the tragic incident, six people were taken in for questioning by police in connection with Maria’s death, according to People.

“Just scratched that off my bucket list. Being broke saves you a lot sometimes.”

Alicia Stebbins:

“Um, maybe she should have realised. I mean, if I’m getting thrown off, I’m making sure I’m properly tied in.”

Joel Martinez:

“Her fiancé was there, they said. I guess ’till death do us part’ came early, lol. But I don’t think this is real.”
