Lamido Urges PDP Candidates To Shun Personal Attacks, Focus On Issues Ahead Of 2027 Polls

Former Jigawa State Governor and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sule Lamido, has urged aspirants and candidates preparing for the 2027 general elections to conduct issue-based campaigns, warning against personal attacks and politics of bitterness.

Lamido said political actors should concentrate on presenting practical solutions to Nigeria’s pressing challenges rather than engaging in character assassination.

The elder statesman spoke on Saturday while receiving PDP governorship candidates from Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Yobe states at his residence in Bamaina, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

He stressed that the country’s current socio-economic and security challenges demanded mature political engagement capable of fostering national unity and development.

“We want to redirect and restore the culture of politics in terms of issues, not personalities,” Lamido said.

“We must know that we are all Nigerians. We are citizens of this country and we all love Nigeria. It is not about what someone did; it is about what you will offer Nigerians as an individual or political party.”

According to him, the 2027 election campaigns should revolve around critical national issues, including insecurity, the economy, education and corruption.

“These are the issues we should campaign on so that when we eventually form government, it will truly be a government of the people,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the PDP governorship candidate in Gombe State and former Minister of Communications, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, said the visit was aimed at seeking Lamido’s guidance and support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Pantami described the former governor as a principled political leader who had consistently demonstrated courage and commitment to national interest.

“Nigeria and Nigerians need leaders like Sule Lamido who stand with the masses and possess the courage to speak the truth to anyone, regardless of their position or status,” Pantami said.

The visit comes as political parties and aspirants intensify consultations and strategic engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections, with debates over governance, economic reforms and national security expected to dominate the campaign season.
