An elderly worshipper has recounted the terrifying moments suspected bandits stormed the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Omugo during a church service, forcing congregants to flee after gunshots rang out around the premises.
The eyewitness spoke during an interview on News Central TV, on Tuesday, 9 June, 2026, following accounts earlier given by church member Opeyemi Yusuf and other survivors of the attack. Her testimony provided further insight into how the incident unfolded and the panic that gripped worshippers as the armed men arrived.
According to the woman, the congregation had completed a collective Bible study session and was preparing to begin a period of praise and worship when the atmosphere suddenly changed. She said a child in the church was the first to notice that strangers had approached the area.
“We have finished the collective Bible studies and were about to begin songs of praise when a child suddenly stood up and said that some people had come. Almost immediately we heard gunshots and everyone ran out of the church,” she said.
The eyewitness explained that the warning from the child was followed almost instantly by the sound of gunfire, sending worshippers scrambling for safety. The sudden attack disrupted the service and created confusion as members rushed to escape from the church building.
Her account corroborates other testimonies from survivors who described a chaotic scene as suspected bandits invaded the church and abducted several worshippers. The incident has left many families worried about relatives who were taken away during the attack.
