Web Designer Arrested for Alleged Rape of 16-Year-Old Housemaid in Ogun State

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old web designer, Abiodun Amosu, for allegedly raping his 16-year-old housemaid at his residence in the Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta.

The suspect was taken into custody on Friday following a CCTV footage and a formal complaint lodged at the Ibara Police Division by the victim, who was accompanied by a representative of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR). watch video 

According to police reports, the incident occurred last Thursday while Amosu’s wife was away in Lagos. The victim, a native of Benue State, alleged that her employer forcibly dragged her into his bedroom and sexually assaulted her. She further claimed that after the attack, she was beaten and ordered to leave the premises.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed on Sunday that the suspect initially denied the allegations during interrogation. However, he later confessed when detectives confronted him with a blood-stained bedsheet recovered from his bedroom.

The DPO Ibara division, Dada Olusegun, led detectives to the scene where the randy suspect was arrested. On interrogation, the suspect initially denied the allegation, but when confronted with the blood-stained bed sheet in his bedroom, he admitted to the commission of the offence,” Oyeyemi stated.

The victim, who claimed to have been a virgin prior to the incident, was immediately taken to a general hospital for medical evaluation. Oyeyemi confirmed that the medical report substantiated her claim of sexual abuse.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The suspect is currently in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations. Authorities have assured that justice will be pursued diligently in accordance with the law.
