The Adamawa Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 election, Maurice Vonobolki, has declared that the era of political godfatherism has ended in the state.
Vonobolki made the declaration at Yola International Airport in an interview with journalists shortly after he arrived from Abuja, where he was issued with his governorship.
The PDP governorship candidate claimed that: “The cancer called ‘godfatherism’ was eradicated since the emergence of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in the 2019 election. Fintiri was elected without any godfather behind his emergence, except for the support of the Adamawa voters.
“We are going to bring an end to the politics of godfatherism. People of Adamawa State, you, yourself, will own your government by yourself. After all, government is for the people, by the people, and for the people,” he said.
He emphasised that the PDP as a party has provided a platform for all its members contesting the elective office of their choice to have confidence in the Party’s ability to deliver. Vunobolki, however, lamented that some aggrieved members, especially aspirants who couldn’t make it in the race, are creating unnecessary tension and causing unnecessary confusion.

Vonobolki added that “now that various rightful candidates have emerged through the laid-down procedures in the party, the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will naturally address all the misconceptions about who is who in the contest.”
According to him, the certificates of return presented to those who won their primaries show that there is no faction in the PDP in Adamawa State; rather, the party’s umbrella is big enough to accommodate as many people as possible, calling on everyone to come under the big umbrella party until victory is attained in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
“We’re not here to campaign. We’re here only to present our certificates of return to all our members in Adamawa State, as that will tackle the final misrepresentations of facts and propaganda that have been wielded all over Nigeria.
“PDP remains one political party all over Nigeria under the leadership of Honourable Abraham Mohammed, who is the national chairman of the party.
“Therefore, the National Executive Council, NEC of the party sat down a few days ago to ratify the primary elections of the PDP across Nigeria, in which Adamawa State candidates were part of it.
“And on behalf of all other candidates of PDP in Adamawa State, I present my certificate of return to all the members of the PDP in Adamawa and to see that the fact is that PDP is one big family to accommodate all.
“All our candidates, in the forthcoming general elections, received the certificates of return and also received the forms from INEC to fill out, as they were nominated to contest the elections as candidates of PDP in the 2027 general elections. So we congratulate the PDP all over Nigeria.
“We extend our hand of fellowship to all other members of PDP who feel aggrieved and want to come back home. We are focused on delivering PDP for victory in the forthcoming generation by the grace of God. Therefore, it is my principal belief that the people of Adamawa State will own their state by themselves,” Vonobolki reiterated.
