Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Thursday, 23 July, 2026 disclosed that the south-east region and its five governors have resolved to support the second term bid of President Bola Tinubu.
Uzodimma, who also the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (SEGF) made this disclosure on Thursday during a meeting with the Imo state elders council and traditional rulers in Owerri.
According to him, since the inception of his administration, Tinubu has demonstrated unprecedented commitment to the development of the region under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with ample evidence to boot.
“The South-east has decided. Our people judge governments by performance and not by political sentiments. The evidence is on the ground,” the Imo State Governor said.
“We, the five governors of the south-east, have reviewed all options and decided that we will work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be part of the Project Nigeria,” Uzodimma said, just as he also disclosed that the Governors would soon pay a joint courtesy visit to the president to further seal their partnership with the Federal Government.
Uzodimma cited the South East Development Commission Act signed into law in 2024 as one of the remarkable moves made by Tinubu to address long-standing developmental concerns in the region.
He said since signing the law, Tinubu has ensured that the commission commenced operations with required funding, a feat he described as unprecedented in the history of the region.
The Governor added that the president also approved a $3 billion reconstruction of the Eastern Rail Corridor stretching from Port Harcourt through the south-east to Maiduguri, a project he said would significantly boost commerce and regional integration.
Uzodimma also highlighted the execution of the Phase 2A and 2B access roads to the Second Niger Bridge, including the dual carriageway linking Umunya, Ogbunike, Ogidi, Nkpor and Asaba, with seven bridges along the corridor.
He also cited the rehabilitation and commencement of commercial operations on the Port Harcourt–Aba rail line, which he said would reconnect the south-east to the national rail network.
According to him, beyond road projects, all states in the region have enjoyed increased federal allocations, improved security efforts, and student loan programmes that have made education affordable for the teeming south-east youths.
He urged the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers to remain committed to the implementation of the state’s Charter of Equity, noting that the law remains the foundation for lasting peace, justice and political stability in the state.
On Tuesday, 21 July, 2026, Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, and chieftain of the opposition Labour Party (LP), described Tinubu’s economic reforms as courageous.
