Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has made it clear he wants Enzo Fernandez to remain at Stamford Bridge despite continued speculation over the midfielder’s future.
The Spaniard addressed the issue during his first press conference since taking charge of the Blues on Monday, insisting the Argentina international remains part of his plans for the new season.
Fernandez has been linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent weeks, with reports connecting him to Real Madrid. However, the Spanish giants have denied pursuing the 25-year-old, whose reported valuation stands at £120 million.
Alonso backs Fernandez stay
When asked if he wanted Fernandez to remain at Chelsea, Alonso gave a straightforward response – “Yes.”
The former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen manager confirmed he had already spoken with the midfielder but declined to reveal the details of their discussion.

“We have spoken. But, as you can understand, what we said will remain private.”
Fernandez is currently with Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is preparing for a semi-final clash against England.
Alonso outlines squad plans
Alonso also confirmed striker Nicolas Jackson will rejoin Chelsea’s squad after Bayern Munich opted not to make his loan move permanent.
“Nico Jackson is joining the tour in Asia and we are looking forward to him working with us.”
The Chelsea boss also revealed that winger Alejandro Garnacho has not resumed training with the first team as he looks to secure a move away from the club, with Serie A side Roma among the clubs reportedly interested.
Alonso admitted Chelsea’s failure to qualify for European competition could influence some transfer decisions but insisted the club’s long-term plans remain unchanged.
“The team is good and where we want to reinforce in terms of positions is clear.”»
He added: “We are aligned with the sporting directors on what we want to reach. There are some weeks to go but we are working in a very aligned way and this is the right way.”
Chelsea also confirmed the departure of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos, who completed his move to Manchester United earlier on Monday.
