The Nigerian Army has declared one of its personnel, Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, wanted over his alleged involvement in the illegal sale and supply of military uniforms to terrorists and other criminal elements.
The Army said the soldier, who was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory under the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, absconded from his unit on June 3, 2026, before preliminary investigations linked him to the alleged illicit activities.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the Headquarters Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps, Maj. Oluwatope Aluko.
According to the statement, the military authorities have commenced intensive efforts to track down and arrest the fugitive soldier for a comprehensive investigation and possible disciplinary action in line with military regulations.
The statement read in part, “Private Mohammed Yusuf Amutu, who was serving at the Nigerian Army Ordnance Kits Factory, absconded from his unit on 3 June 2026.
“Consequently, he has been declared wanted by the appropriate military authorities, while intensive efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him to face a full investigation and appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with extant military laws.”
The Army reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and any act capable of undermining national security, warning that personnel involved in the unauthorised sale, diversion or distribution of military uniforms and other controlled military items would face the full weight of military and civil laws.
It stressed that no officer or soldier found aiding terrorists, criminals or other non-state actors through such activities would be spared from prosecution.
The Nigerian Army Ordnance Corps also appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the wanted soldier.
It urged anyone with useful information to report to the nearest military formation or any security agency.
The Corps further assured Nigerians of its commitment to accountability, professionalism and the protection of military assets, adding that it would continue to strengthen internal control measures to prevent similar incidents.
It also pledged that every allegation of misconduct involving its personnel would be thoroughly investigated and those found culpable held accountable in accordance with the law.
