Braga snap up NPFL teenage defender

Portuguese top-flight club SC Braga have completed the signing of Nigerian teenage defender Adebisi Olamikun from Nigeria Premier Football League side Inter Lagos.

Inter Lagos confirmed the transfer in a statement on its official X account, announcing the departure of the highly rated 18-year-old centre-back.

Reports indicate Olamikun has signed a long-term contract with the Portuguese club in a deal worth about €50,000.

The left-footed defender has already arrived in Portugal, where he is expected to begin his development with Braga’s youth team as he targets a place in the club’s senior squad.

Olamikun earned widespread recognition during his time at Inter Lagos, where his composed performances and defensive ability established him as one of the country’s most promising young defenders.

His move also reinforces Inter Lagos’ growing reputation for producing players capable of making the step into European football, with Olamikun becoming the latest graduate of the club’s development programme to secure an overseas transfer.

According to Transfermarkt, Olamikun is the eighth Nigerian player to join Braga, following former Super Eagles defender and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner Elderson Echiejile among those to have represented the Portuguese side.

The transfer marks the next stage in the youngster’s career as he begins his European journey with one of Portugal’s leading clubs.
